The Weishaar’s Soup Patrol in Tucson

Feb. 26, 2020

At Symmetry Financial Group, one of our core values is “being of service and doing good in the world.” Each month, we celebrate our team members who are working to benefit the lives of others. David and Kathie Weishaar have been with Symmetry since 2017, and beyond making an impact in the lives of their clients, they’re making a profound impact on their community in Tucson, Arizona through the Soup Patrol program.

The Weishaars began volunteering with Soup Patrol in 2017. Soup Patrol is a program that supplies hot soup, bread, hot chocolate, blankets and hats to people experiencing homelessness in the Tucson area. The group, composed of about 80 volunteers, delivers goods to the community every night from November through March.

On an average night, the group serves more than 100 cups of soup with bread and a sweet treat to people in town. In 2017, Soup Patrol dished up 8,768 servings to the community, and in 2019, that number grew to 12,796 hot meals! They are currently on track to exceed that number this season.

Throughout the year, the Weishaars work hard to organize volunteers, all while conducting background checks and training sessions to ensure the volunteers are prepared to fully support and advocate for community members.

Most recently, David helped develop a website and app to organize volunteers and promote events. This made it even easier for volunteers to register for nights they’re able to help out. The Weishaars also work tirelessly throughout the season to gather donations of bread, vegetables, meat, bottled water, dining utensils, hats, gloves, socks, and blankets.

Thank you, David and Kathie, for your dedication to Symmetry’s core values and for your kindness that’s making a long-lasting impact in your community!
